Everyone already knew who the Florida men’s basketball team was going to face in its season opener. Now they know the where.
The Gators will tip off against Georgetown in the Navy-Marine Corps Classic on Nov. 9 with the game being played on the deck of the USS Bataan at Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville. Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown made the announcement earlier this week.
The game is being held in conjunction with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who play host to the Indianapolis Colts Thursday, Nov. 8.
According to the city, the USS Bataan will be accompanied by the USS Mesa Verde and the USS Carter Hall.
This is the second consecutive season to feature an NCAA basketball game on a naval carrier.
Last year, Michigan State and North Carolina tipped off on the USS Carl Vinson in San Diego as part of the Carrier Classic. Ohio State’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will take part in this year’s classic on the carrier. The women will play host to Notre Dame on Nov. 9 while the men will take on Marquette.
