Florida’s Bradley Beal and Patric Young were named to the Naismith Award preseason watch list on Monday. Young, a 6-foot-9, 247-pound sophomore, was also named to the Wooden Award Preseason Top 50.
As a freshman last season, Young was an All-SEC Freshman selection after averaging 3.4 points and 3.8 rebounds. Young played in 37 games and averaged 17.8 minutes per game as the Gators went 29-8 and advanced to the Elite Eight.
Beal, meanwhile, was also named to the Wayman Tisdale Award preseason watch list. The Florida freshman was the Gatorade National Player of the Year last year at Chaminade Prep in St. Louis, Mo. He averaged 32.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in his senior year. The 6-foot-3, 207-pound shooting guard was the 14th McDonald’s All-American signed by coach Billy Donovan and is one of four on the roster with Young, guard Kenny Boynton and guard Mike Rosario.
The watch list was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Board of Selectors, which based its criteria on player performances from the previous year and expectations for the 2012 college basketball season. The Naismith Trophy will be awarded at the 2012 NCAA Men’s Final Four in New Orleans.
