Former Gator pitcher Steven Rodriguez has signed a deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday.
The left-hander, who was selected with the 82nd pick in the second round of this year’s MLB Draft, becomes the eighth player from this year’s team who was drafted and signed a deal with a professional team.
Rodriguez had a 3-2 record this season in 34 appearances and led the squad with 81 strikeouts in 62 innings. He registered a 2.18 ERA while notching four saves.
During his career in Gainesville, he compiled a 9-4 record while registering a 2.19 ERA, which is the lowest by a Gator pitcher since 1974. His career 10.64 strikeouts per nine innings ranks Rodriguez as No. 1 in school history.
