Gillislee is expected to play Saturday at Tennessee

UF coach Will Muschamp said Wednesday starting tailback Mike Gillislee practiced on Tuesday and should be good to go for Saturday’s game at Tennessee.

“He practiced yesterday,” Muschamp said on the SEC coaches’ teleconference. “He looked good.”

Gillislee strained his groin during Saturday’s victory at Texas A&M. He sustained the injury early in the game, but returned. He aggravated the injury during his game-winning 12-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter.

Muschamp said earlier this week the coaches would limit Gillislee’s reps in practice to make sure he’d be ready for Saturday’s game.

While Gillislee will be playing Saturday, two key defensive players won’t — starting outside linebacker Jelani Jenkins (broken thumb) and cornerback Cody Riggs (foot fracture).

Jenkins had surgery and is expected to be out for four weeks. Riggs’ injury did not require surgery. He’s out for four to six weeks.

True freshman Antonio Morrison is expected to start in Jenkins’ place. Michael Taylor, the No. 2 middle linebacker, has been sharing reps with Morrison this week at outside linebacker.

“(Morrison) and Michael Taylor have both repped in there. They’re kind of rotating in there in the regular package,” Muschamp said. “I think both of those guys have responded very well.”
