Wins over then-No. 6 Georgia and then-No. 14 Tennessee helped Florida’s women’s tennis team clinch a share of the SEC title and move back into the No. 1 spot in the Intercollegiate Tennis Rankings.

It also helped Lauren Embree and Sofie Oyen earn weekly SEC honors. Embree was named the SEC Player of the Week and Oyen the Freshman of the Week after both went unbeaten last week.

Embree was a combined 3-0 in singles and doubles last week, beating Georgia’s No. 25 Chelsey Gullickson to win her 17th consecutive singles match. She’s 17-0 this season, with of her wins coming in dual matches.

In doubles, Embree paired with Oyen for the first time to win two matches against nationally ranked opponents.

Oyen, meanwhile, was the only player to go a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles matches last week. That helped Florida (21-1, 10-0 SEC) beat the only other unbeaten conference teams.

Oyen’s win against Tennessee’s Kata Szekely was her ninth consecutive singles victory, as she improved to 21-8 overall in singles.

Florida can clinch the SEC title outright by beating South Carolina this weekend. The Gators host the match Saturday at 11 a.m.
