Good news for Florida football fans as quarterback John Brantley returned to practice Tuesday and is on track to start Saturday at No. 15 South Carolina.
Brantley still is recovering from the sprained ankle he suffered in October and had to come out of last week’s game after taking a hard shot to his throwing arm. He did not practice Sunday or Monday.
“John looked pretty good,” offensive coordinator Charlie Weis said. “He could’ve practiced yesterday, but we got two things out of that: he got more rest and the other guys got more work. But he took almost all the reps today.”
In last week’s win over Vanderbilt, the Gators used true freshman Jacoby Brissett for some plays under center and played him when Brantley went down. Brissett continued solidifying his place as Brantley’s back-up and Florida’s future starter by completing 40-yard pass, picking up a first down on a pass interference call and scoring on a quarterback sneak.
“It doesn’t surprise me that he’s making those plays,” Weis said. “He’s showed since he’s been out there, right from the first game that he was out there, he’s showed pretty good composure.”
